I Heart Musicals!

Miss Saigon, Phantom, Les Miserables, WICKED!, Chess, Chicago, My Fair Lady, Grease, Music Man, Oklahoma, Calamity Jane, Sound of Music.

I have been listening to Chess just about every day since April.

Then on this blog I "stalk" (No) Sex in the City
posted that on PBS a wonderful all star cast would be performing Chess. A musical that I fell in love with back in High school. And WOO to the HOO Josh Groban would be singing. (SIGH)

Now I have it saved on my Tivo and can watch it when ever Miss M
and I are in the mood to belt it out!
(Her favorite song is One Night in Bangkok)

Since watching this I can't stop singing this song Someone Else's Story
(but on my Chess CD Someone Else's Story is not on it??? must
be on the London version?) SO its a good thing that I have it saved to DVR!
OR can watch it on You Tube.

Finally, it's here

Yes, my piano.
You may not know this, but I do play the piano.
Well, pretend.
I have taken piano lessons several times, once for myself, and then a few more as a nanny/babysitter (with the kids, not for me).
I love playing the piano.
I wish I was better.
I wish I could read my left hand - was never very good at it.
But I am SO happy the piano is here.
And I love that my kids love to play on it.

He will be releasing his FIRST children's album May 5.

***also on the upcoming album
Paul Simon, Jack Johnson, Willie Nelson, Toots Hibbert, lots of Marley family members, and Elizabeth Mitchel.

Somewhere Over the Mountains

We are having a GREAT time in Utah. Enjoying Cafe Rio - I had Arctic Circle for the FIRST time. Stopped in a Roberts found some REALLY cute fall decorations. Even found my way back to my moms house from the hospital after her surgery - with out getting lost (and this was my first time driving in Utah.)

Wish I had remembered to bring my camera cord so I could post pictures of our trip so far - guess we will just have to wait till we get home - there are some cute ones (if i say so myself) with Cousins and a pumpkin patch. Miss M and Miss A's first time to Chuck E Cheese. Miss A caught with a box of chocolates and even pictures of the HUGE kidney stone I passed. (picture a corn nut - not too far off from that - just a bit smaller).

Tomorrow I will FINALLY meet Ethan my Bff's brand new baby. We will also get to spend some time with Keenan's brother his wife and son!! Plus celebrate some birthdays - Brayden, Aiden and Miss A. (I need more time here in Utah - the week is going by too fast...)

I also found more videos of Keenan at the Tiki Terrace. He is singing the popular Iz song Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
(it takes a while for the video camera to finally find Keenan - but at least it still sounds good) K always sings this song for Miss M.

Also Keenan flew in tonight to join us for the weekend. Thanks Miyuki for picking him up at the airport!

Miss M's Hula moves

My new hobby has turned into one for all of us. Miss M LOVES to practice hula with me. Here is a quick video of her dancing. I have found that when I try to video her, she doesn't want to cooperate - but when I am taping her sister, she does everything she can to get into the footage.

*** also my disclaimer, my dinning room table is VERY messy in the back ground, it had all of the desk items on it. I am THRILLED to say I FINALLY got it ALL put away today! Now I just need my sister to help me organize it in my new craft area I CAN NOT wait!
It is feeling so good to finally get some organization done!! OK enough blabbing - HERE is the video! Enjoy!!

On the way home from Hula on Monday, she was singing the song Little brown Gal it is the song we are learning the hula moves to. I was amazed how she could sing this whole song! (I guess I shouldn't be amazed, she has always picked up on songs right away!
I hope she will let me tape her singing it soon.

Just one more funny Miss M story. Miss M LOVES to play games in the car. One of her favorites is Name that Tune. She started humming the tune to ABC/Baa Baa Black Sheep/Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. I let her hum a few notes before I started guessing,

ME: "is it A B C D?"

Miss M: "Nope!" with a little giggle.

I listen to some more notes.

ME: "OH I know is it Bah Bah Black Sheep?"

Miss M: hee hee, "Nope not that one!"

so I listen a little bit longer - knowing that it MUST be Twinkle Twinkle!

ME: " I know, I know!! It's Twinkle Twinkle Little Star!!!"

Miss M: " OH Mommy you were SO close! It's Twinkle Twinkle Little star in SPANISH!"

Me in my head: " how was I supposed to know it was in Spanish from her humming it!?!?!?"

Clever little girl! ; )

The Kamae Brothers

K's brother came to town for a FUN visit! They played and played and then played some more. And I don't mean just any kind of playing, they played music, as in gigs. Twice at the Tiki Terrace
and once at the Grand Opening of a new restaurant in Evanston. The Big Ka Hoo Na a Hawaiian BBQ plate lunch.
I think both brothers wish they lived closer so they could play together more often...

So Irritating!

I have been trying to just ignore my neighbor but when you come home from an uplifting church meeting and feel your house shaking because the bass and music are so loud it's a bit hard to ignore!
I feel so irritated by her. I try calling - of course the music is too loud to hear the phone. Then I send a text, a nice one at first, then a not as nice one the 2nd time, then I want to say turn it down or I am calling the cops. But just then she comes home - yeah she wasn't even home! Someone else is upstairs listening to that music. Then I get a text message back asking "What Time Is It!?!?" and how exactly am I suppose to answer that, "Time to get a watch" "Or my babies nap time - and she can not sleep because your bass thumping is so loud!" or "It's Sunday afternoon and I only listen to church music on the Sabbath - so please put on the Mo-Tab" I mean really how did she want me to answer that.?!? Just turn the music down - you have no problem irritating me at all hours of the day with your text messages telling me my kids our being to loud, or my t.v. is too loud or the heat isn't high enough for you...Ugh she makes me so so so...

Not the Wicked Witch

After my post yesterday I thought I should post that I am much better, ( special thanks to the friends that checked in on me!) I got a little more sleep and some Aleve and things are looking up today : ) I Am NOT the Wicked Witch, although If I HAD to be one, I would LOVE to be Elphaba.
(that being said) A few weeks ago, I made a new music mix CD and I put a few
Wicked songs on there. Miss M tuned right into those and since then we have been listening to the Wicked sound track pretty much NON STOP! (to my delight!) Tonight on our commute home from my job we were listening to it full blast and I looked in my rear view mirror and saw this almost 4 year old belting out the songs. I wish I could put down all the thoughts that ran through my mind, but I think my favorite one was how THRILLED I am to have my daughter have a love of music (kind of impossible in this household) and that she loves ALL kinds of music - now I am thinking of all the musicals we can share together! And I want to take her to see Wicked so so bad!! Especially because I KNOW she will LOVE IT!! And Maybe someday Miss M will be in musicals and... well you see I had a lot of thoughts running in my head, but I think she would make a pretty cute Witch!

Do you have a favorite musical?

Mele Kalikimaka is Hawaii's way...

Last week, we had one last hoo-ray at the Tiki Terrace before they closed. It was a special party for the employee's and musicians. They didn't serve any of their food but they had PIZZA and an open bar - yum, I was able to drink all the Cherry Coke I wanted and Keenan and Marlee finished all the Pineapple and Orange juice - we really know how to party! Scott one of the owners, had a surprise waiting for everyone - a HUGE Tiki that we could all carve away at. It was a great way to kick off the holiday season. And of course what would Tiki Terrace be with out music - the musicians got together and jammed one more time.
The Tiki will reopen in three months at a bigger, better location...until then ALOHA!

Marlee wanted so badly to keep working away on the TIKI, she still talks about it

Keenan and Aunty Donna, in matching Tiki shirts

Marlee and her favorite waitress Ilene - she really is the best! ; )

Keenan, Marlee and Phil working away on the Tiki

One last jam session - and they sounded SO good
(these are the guys that Keenan is recording a cd with)

From our Snowy "Island" to yours,
MELE KALIKIMAKA!!!
