Tomorrow Marlee starts 2nd grade! AND she is getting glasses, which she is excited about.
This summer went by too fast. But except for a couple of weeks when a few of us got sick - we enjoyed it all. I do wish we would have gone to the pool a bit more...but not so easy to do when there are big thunder, lighting and pouring down rain storms.
Today was a beautiful Sunday and we took advantage of being dressed up and sunny weather to take a couple family pictures by the lake.

So busy...
That I don't find much time for blogging anymore, I still like to do it (even if no one reads my blog) I just do it, because really it IS my only form of journaling and my girls like to visit it from time to time to see what they've done, what we've been up to.
We have been out of town A LOT. Enjoying the last little bit of summer before the crazy school year starts for everyone ONCE again.
The Mum - I have found time to do some crafting...Marlee had a birthday party to go to so I pulled out my hair bow supplies and whipped out some hair stuff for her cute friend, (pictures down below) while I was doing that Jesica whipped up a candy lei for her. YUM! plus you know working on some cards here and there...here is some of my new ones.
I have also enjoyed taking my kids to various activities, camping out at my moms when we lost power. Hanging out with some girlfriends for card night/craft night and food! LAUNDRY lots and lots of it! UGH. Having tv time with Keenan and Jesica WOOT for actually having time to watch the tv!We've also house sat, dog sat, kid sat, had our first annual sibling/cousin reunion, went to festivals, visited pools all over and visited the body worlds display at the museum of science and industry. And I have enjoyed taking lots and lots of pictures for Hoapili and Hula groups in the area.
there is still much to do on our summer Bucket list. Visit Millennium Park, go to the museum with Daddy, go to the pool more, farmers markets, date night with Keenan...
The Dad has been singing, singing, singing (and I have been taking pictures!!) all over the mid-west! Loving being part of Hoapili! . Also working at the Er, and yard work. Hitting up his favorite thrift stores hanging out with some fun new friends (especially when we had no power for a whole week and I took the kids to hang out at my moms so we could enjoy electricity and central air!) He has also cooked a TON! Not that I have been able to enjoy them being gone so much but his friends have told me how ONO everything has been. He has also helped a few families move in this summer. And did mention traveling all over to play music with Hoapili!
The Mars went to Great America! - learned to ride her bike, went to summer camp, piano, and has become pretty confident in the pool - our little honu! Has hung out with her cousins. And really really wants me to take her to Utah to visit her other ones! She is such a book worm and has devoured so many books this summer. I am glad she gets that from me. The other thing that I must talk about is her love of HULA! She has blossomed and will get up and dance in front of everyone and dance her little heart out (she and jesica actually were hired for a birthday party this summer). Couldn't be prouder of this girl and her amazing talent. Now if we just could get her in hula lessons...she also has performed with her dad and uncles Ron and Mike singing spread a little Aloha for Hoapili.
The Aves has enjoyed being her crazy sweet little self! She loves being with her family. And we LOVE her smile and infectious laugh! (although we don't always enjoy her and Gavyn's bickering...) She was old enough to go to summer camp this year (we won't talk about on her very first day I didn't realize camp was over for her at 11:30 and completely failed to pick her up! making sure the rest of camp that Daddy or Aunt Jesica picked her up because Mommy forgets) Ugh mother of the year award ALL MINE!!. She participated in her All by myself class at the library. LOVE that class and Ms. Laura! She has become pretty good on her two wheeler with training wheels and can pump herself to swing, is becoming aware of letters and words all around her, has made a cute new friend and has had lots of play-dates with her, and LOVES to swim, on her own terms of course. She has also decided to be a little hula girl and enjoys singing with Daddy too.
The Gavers - the baby - but the big boy as well. He is talking like crazy, has gone through so many phases, our least favorite hitting, now we just get the fart noises that he thinks are SO funny. He loves teasing the girls, especially Ava. Love animals especially Gramma and Granpa's puppy Maggie. And she ADORES him. Gavyn loves nursery at church, the pool absolutely NO fear, his mom. Has gotten somewhat better on going to sleep at night in his own bed, how ever he wants to give up his naps, Mommy and Auntie are SO not ready for that! He LOVES his train table that uncle set up for him and Marlee so patiently re-sets hourly for him to play at. He loves to sing and has also started to hula dance with the girls. I think Uncle better teach him some hula dances quick! He has also gone to the ER as the result of a playground mishap. Smacked his two front teeth on a metal merry-go-round. OUCH! But was so happy that Uncle was working at the ER that night and brought him a Popsicle. We can NOT believe that his 2nd birthday is DAYS away!
The Aunt - works, works, works, and yet still finds time to play with us! It's nice that she has not had classes this summer! We have all enjoyed the time off. She also had vacation time and came up to WI with us! She is constantly cleaning the house (LOVE IT!) and has helped PURGE! I have also gotten her to attend many late nights crafting with me, even if she is completely wiped out. And has now become a kidney stone passing insomniac like me. What an awful thing to have rubbed off onto her! AND I got her to READ a book this summer The Help - which we will go see soon! And she says that I always take bad pictures of her, eating, doing silly things...but really I can't see a bad picture at all! ; )
Hope you are all having an awesome summer too!!!

D is for decorations
go HERE to see the original post.
I have to say it looks A LOT easier then it really is -
I recommend using the scorer, and heavy duty tape glue, or hot glue even.
My paper kept ripping when I would try to open it up.
But as you can see, I did finally get it days/hours later...
and I love it. Now I think I can do the 4th of July one for my mantle (hopefully before the 4th!)
C is for CRAFTY
I have lots of memories of my mom doing crafts, and helping her with those crafts I always thought she was (is) the most crafty lady around! I remember her getting ready for craft shows. One of my favorite things she made were GIANT lollipops around Christmas time. It always brought "visions of sugar plums dancing in my head".
I however find myself doubting any craft ability inside me. I always say that inside of me there is ___________(a great piano player, a solo singer, an amazing hula dancer, an artist, a sewer - well you get the picture). waiting to burst out.
I have a few friends that I like to craft with, and we like to get together to work on crafts as often as we can. One of my friends talked about getting our kids together to learn to sew. SO we did just that. It was fun, Marlee was super proud of herself in spite of all the hiccups with the machine and has an adorable pillow case to remind her of her efforts. She and her friend had a great time and she is already talking about what she will be sewing next. (it was a good refresher for me - and now I am ready to work on all those projects I tucked away for someday - well maybe) I hope that I pass along my joy of crafting to my girls. And I am thankful for friends that help bring the best out in me and my girls!

YEA is for Young Evanston Artists
Every Spring for as long as I have lived here, Evanston has sponsored an Art Show for the grade school Children. Miss M has had art in both of her school years. Oakton's theme this year was planting roots and soaring. Their new art teacher was very creative with ideas she helped to inspire in all the children!
Here Miss M is showing her Bird (notice the little eye brows on him)
So thankful for these enrichment/special classes she has at school.
And here is some other of the other kids art work
I thought this one looked like the little gold owl from Clash of the Titans (the old one)
